Dr. Ed Sherbert, SHRM-SCP, was honored on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, by Quilts of Valor, an organization dedicated to recognizing and comforting veterans with handcrafted quilts. Dr. Sherbert, a Vietnam War veteran, was nominated for this prestigious recognition by fellow veteran and professor of business, Dr. Mel Sinclair.
The Quilts of Valor ceremony celebrated Dr. Sherbert’s service and sacrifice during the Vietnam War, with the presentation of a specially crafted quilt designed to offer comfort and honor to those who have served in the armed forces. The event was a moving tribute to his bravery and dedication, both during his military service and throughout his professional career.
Dr. Mel Sinclair, who nominated Dr. Sherbert for the award, spoke of his admiration and respect for his colleague’s contributions to both the military and the academic community. “Dr. Sherbert’s service in Vietnam is a testament to his courage and commitment,” said Dr. Sinclair. “His continued dedication to mentoring students and professionals alike reflects the same values of service and excellence.”
The Quilts of Valor Foundation, founded in 2003, has awarded thousands of quilts to veterans across the United States, each representing a symbolic gesture of gratitude and comfort for their service. Dr. Sherbert’s recognition highlights his enduring legacy as both a veteran and a leader in his community.
“I am deeply honored to receive this quilt,” said Dr. Sherbert. “It is a reminder of the sacrifices made by so many, and I am grateful to be recognized by such a meaningful organization.”
